Photos of Fish Lake NF:TOL May 2017
A Cherry tree blooms on the edge of Lake Washington near Seattle. Beyond lighting the Seattle skies after months of rainy, gray, cold weather, the trees have another plan in mind; attracting pollinators like bees. Laid out in their blooms, are paths traced in UV sensitive light only bees can see ensuring the bees an early harvest, and the tree, a sky full of seeds to spread its family tree further.
Formed when minerals leech into the pores of ancient trees and replace the tree matter with rock, Petrified Trees are often found in areas that were once watery or, volcanic. Pictured here, what appear to be perfectly cut logs that actually, break apart in perfect slices due to fungus present when they were inundated and the way the mineral crystals break apart.
