Formed when minerals leech into the pores of ancient trees and replace the tree matter with rock, Petrified Trees are often found in areas that were once watery or, volcanic. Pictured here, what appear to be perfectly cut logs that actually, break apart in perfect slices due to fungus present when they were inundated and the way the mineral crystals break apart.
Rare vertical arms display the deeper symmetry of Spruce Trees in the Pacific Northwest. This one, found in the Hoh Rainforest, where it can rain up to 212 inches a year, has lost its branches that connected in an earlier time, rare as trees always build up on the side away from the sun, whats more, do not send out branchs in the same area to maximize energy spent, and potential energy consumption.
