Cloud Shadows Over the Palouse Farmland | Steptoe Butte State Park, Washington

View of Palouse Farmlands and Idaho's Rocky Mountains from peak of Steptoe Butte above Palouse Farmlands

Taken from 3,600 feet above the Palouse Farmland on the Palouse Scenic Byway in Eastern Washington, pictured here, is the view from the East side of the Butte looking 30 miles into the horizon at the Rocky Mountains. Taken on a day with patchy low cloud cover, 3600 feet below, the cloud shadows play against the gently rolling hills called "loesses", rich farmland shaped by mega floods that extend east and south from this rural vantage and forms the bread basket of Washington State.
